Belinda Holland has been singing jazz and blues in Sydney for over three decades. Belinda is an exciting straight ahead skilled jazz vocalist who really swings and can actually sing the blues. Belinda is a singer's singer with strong musical dynamics, great phrasing, timing and an energetic scat. A true entertainer and a great raconteur with a comedic style all her own. Her original songs prove her to be a unique blues lyricist. Belinda will make you laugh out loud but just as quickly she can quiet a busy room with a stunning ballad.
Belinda started out at Kate Dunbar's Jazz Singers workshop and then went on to attend Jazz Vocals at the Conservatorium of Music. She now continues Kate Dunbar's legacy running the Jazz Singers Workshop in Glebe.
She has performed at the Darling Harbour, Newtown, Wollongong and Sydney Jazz festivals and Sydney's Women Sing the Blues. She has appeared regularly at Jazushi, The Eastern Lounge and Soup Plus. Currently the trio have a Sunday residency at the Frisco Hotel in Woolloomooloo and Belinda and her trio are welcomed back regularly to The Basement at the Wollongong Builders Club and the Old Fitzroy Hotel every month.Recently Belinda performed in Marrickville's Lazybones Lounge with The Feral Horns.Belinda Holland and the Feral Horns are a festival favourite each year at the Blackheath Jazz Festival.
A career highlight for Belinda was performing to a crowd of over 40,000 at Jazz in the Domain in 2004 with a great response from the audience.
She has performed with highly respected jazz musicians including Rick Robertson, David Blenkhorn, Dave McRae, the blues boogie queen Bridie King and last year New York pianist Sullivan Fortner. She is currently recording an album with Monique Lysiak, Alex Compton and Calvin Welch.
A standout of her performances are originals such as 'Common Sense Cookery Blues' and 'The Hot Water Bottle Blues'.
Belinda Holland is the real deal,she has the essence of an olderworld blues queen as well as the styling of a thoroughly modern jazz singer. Seeing her perform is a unique treat not to be missed.
